Hair by Diane & Associates opened the new salon on November 7, 2001. Our ideal salon plan was to be comfortable, yet chic. A design that would be "on the edge," but relaxed at the same time. It had to be functional for the designers, have plenty of room for products, and plenty of storage. We wanted a salon plan that all the designers could see the clients and the clients could see what the designers were doing with all of the services that were being done. We wanted a place for personal storage and a quiet place to "take five" and relax or eat. Having enough electricity to carry all of the electrical styling tools and equipment, enough air conditioning to counteract all the heat we generate, and an exhaust system to remove the fumes was vital. We required a large amount of space to display all the retail selections that we offer while being convenient for the clients. The idea of a spa wing was keen to us, so the clients would have an area to get nail treatments and massages in a more relaxed and quiet atmosphere. The design for dressing rooms and closet space was essential for client comfort. Plenty of parking spaces to get in and out of was another concern for our clients to have a stress-free visit.

Cynthia Leftwich, designer, and Dwayne McQueen, architect /builder worked with these ideas and requirements for four years. With the input and participation of these talented individuals, the unique architectural design of the building is very eye-appealing. The exterior design of this building is up for a commercial design award for 2002. This structure is unquestionably a landmark for the city of Lubbock.

To everyone’s delight, the end result of this plan was the winning design of the "Salon of the Year" award in Salon Today 2002 magazine.
